It can be quite a challenge to get some children to take up physical activity, even if they love watching sport on tv. The challenge is to get youngsters to see that seeking out local teams and taking part is a great asset towards their life skills and can contribute hugely towards helping them choose a rewarding career. Not in sport per say, but the use of the body and brain in team pursuits can bring great satisfaction and feeling of belonging and achievement. The feeling of failure seems to be a major feature according to a poll of school students on local tv recently. It probably doesn’t help that nowhere near as many parents keep up their sporting interests after marriage, and especially the mums, after child rearing starts. Careers can be made out of sport but it is more easily enjoyed as an amateur participation feature to widen the interests outside work or school.
